Andrea Guarneri was one of the first pupils of Nicolo Amati and his work clearly reflects the influence of his master. It is assumed that this violin was made for, or at least owned by, a noble family whose wax seal was placed on the button of the back. The wood choice is of the finest quality. The one-piece top has some striking figure with the narrowest grain in the bass flanks broadening towards the treble side. The dramatic maple back with its fiery narrow flame is reminiscent of the wood also used by Amati and Stradivari at that time. The elegant model has a body length and string length that is standard. This Guarneri violin has a power of projection that maintains all the intricacies of character that a player wants from a Cremonese sound.
